Top left and right: The school Funk Band were delighted to accept an invitation to perform at the Dart Music Festival on Friday 15th May. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to build on their experience in performing and to showcase their talents to the wider community. Our students, once again, made us very proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the day and of the high standard of their well polished performances.
Centre left: Congratulations to George in Yr 12 who has qualified for the National Youth Theatre. He was assessed in workshops, had 1-1 interviews as well as auditions. This is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of you!
Centre: Well done Violet Yr11 for achieving Grade 4 with merit in your recent singing exam.
Middle right: Alfie Yr7 recently competed in the Swim England South West Regionals, achieving personal best times in all 7 events he competed in. He narrowly missed out on two finals, finishing as 1st reserve in both events. His performances have also seen him rise through the regional rankings, and he is now ranked 4th in Devon across most of his events.
Bottom left: A huge well done to all of the 84 students in Year 8, 9, 10 and 12 who took part in this year's House Drama event. Students worked brilliantly together to create imaginative and professional performances. Congratulations to the winners in Singer House (pictured) and the joint runners up Christie and Gilbert!
Bottom middle: We said goodbye to our cultural guests this week including Benedetta. She is pictured here along with music teachers Mrs Austin and Mrs Byford as well as Joseph who is studying A-Level music and kindly made the cake!
Bottom right: We are immensely proud of our talented athletes who recently competed in the South Devon Athletics Trials. The athletes aimed for a coveted spot on the South Devon team to compete at the prestigious Exeter Arena. We are thrilled to announce that four of our students have successfully qualified for the next round following their podium finishes.

I recently had the privilege of accompanying nine of our talented golfers to the Devon Schools Championships at the stunning Stover Golf Club.
Despite challenging, high-winds, our students displayed immense grit and skill across both individual and team formats.
The standard of play was exceptional, creating a true spectacle of high-level youth golf. Sincere thanks to Devon Golf for a superbly organised event and to Stover for their hospitality.
Congratulations to our players for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship!
A special mention goes to Belle and Georgia who came 2nd and 3rd respectively and will now go on to represent Devon in the South west championships

Churston U13’s Cricketers travelled to Abbotskerswell CC for their latest tournament and produced some excellent cricket throughout the day.
For several of the girls, it was their first opportunity representing the school in a cricket competition, and they did themselves proud with their enthusiasm, teamwork and determination.
The team recorded two fantastic victories and were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a couple of very narrow defeats. Every player contributed, whether with the bat, ball or in the field, showing great progress and confidence as the tournament went on.
A final placing of 5th was a brilliant achievement in a strong field and capped off a great day of sport for the girls.
Well done to everyone involved!

Last Friday was our turn to say goodbye to our Y13s as they head off for study leave before their A-Levels.
Luckily the weather held out for the traditional game of rounders after their Leavers Breakfast. The fancy dress outfits were amazing too!
Good Luck Year 13 - we're so proud of everything you've achieved over the last 7 years. We've seen you grow and develop and it's now nearly time for your Churston journey to end.
You've done all the hard work so show them what you're made of!
See you at the Prom!

Kian (Y13) was part of a team representing Churston at the national finals of this year's UK Space Design Competition.
Having won the regional round in Exeter the team of 12 Churston students qualified for the national final in London where Kian was then elected leader of a team of 60 students from several other schools from all over the UK.
Over the course of 24 hours they worked on an engineering project to design a settlement on the moon. Kian then led a presentation explaining his group's settlement to a panel of judges, for which he personally received an award.
Subsequently he has now been selected to be one of 20 students to attend the International Finals of The International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at The Kennedy Space Centre in the United States in July.
He has also been awarded one of only 10 fully-funded places (including flights and accommodation)!
"I am very excited for this amazing opportunity and very grateful to my incredible teammates (including his sister Milly, Y11) and the teachers from Churston who helped to support our team." Kian
Congratulations to the whole team, but Kian, in particular for this outstanding achievement!
We are all rooting for you for the competition final and wishing you all the very best of luck with both the trip and bright future you no doubt have ahead.
You've done us proud, Kian!

At times, growing up can be a stressful experience. It’s not unheard of for young people to fret about things that could potentially go wrong in their lives – and what implications this would have for their life. In some situations, this can go beyond feeling uneasy about the future and become full-blown anxiety, which affects their mental, emotional and even physical wellbeing.
While worry and anxiety can originate from many different places, it's immensely important for parents and educators to understand the effect this can have on youngsters – and how best to support them if they’re going through a difficult time. This guide provides insight into the ramifications of worry and anxiety, and how you can help children manage – and hopefully overcome – these challenges.
This #WakeUpWednesday guide explores the impacts of worry and anxiety on children, and offers advice on how to support young people struggling with these experiences.
