Top Left: Calling all budding journalists! Magazine Club is on every Tuesday...P4 in Room 20 and P5 in C3. Pictured is our first meeting, where we shared ideas, discussed what we’d like to include in our magazine and got creative! New members are welcome to join! Top Middle: For the second-year running Nate (Y8) has been selected for the Devon U13s Water Polo team. He recently competed in the Inter-County Championships, managing to score/assist several goals throughout the matches and was awarded him U13s Devon player of the tournament. Top Right: Thank you to our 6th Form ambassadors who help out with school events, including our recent Macmillan Cake sale. Middle Left: Our new cohort of Y12 students recently discovered the wide ranging active citizenship opportunities in the 6th form. Centre: Our most recent Cultural Guests are spending time in Y12. After Half Term they will be talking to our younger students about their culture and language - watch this space! Middle Right: Y9 Language Leaders Inspired Galmpton Primary Visitors. A massive well done to our Y9 pupils for putting on such a fantastic event and thank you to the wonderful Y5 children from Galmpton Primary for their incredible energy & participation. We look forward to welcoming you back to our classrooms soon! Bottom middle: During ACE week students created nature based clay tiles with the help of a local clay artist, Donna. The raw tiles were sent away for firing and came back at the beginning of term. They looked amazing! Bottom Right: Whilst in Y13, Kian and team of Churston students won the regional round before representing the South West in the National Final in London. As Vice President, Kian helping to run a team of 60 international students and competing against students from all over the world. During the summer holidays, Alumni Kian Burman travelled to Florida to represent the UK in the International Space Design Competition. This all expenses paid trip was the opportunity of a lifetime. Huge effort from our U13 Rugby team in a tough battle against Stover! While the final score didn't go our way, the performance on the pitch was something to be incre#churstontogether The team showed outstanding heart and determination from the first whistle to the last, putting together phase after phase of fantastic rugby. Stover brought some strong, powerful runners who managed to capitalise on a few breakaway tries, but our boys never let their heads drop. A massive shoutout to the 21 boys who turned out, fantastic numbers for the squad! Including several players making their very first appearance in a Churston shirt. Alfie scored Churston's try after some excellent team play. The team also played in their first Central Venue tournament of the year at home last week, in which they won two games against Dawlish and St. Cuthbert Mayne, drew to Paignton and lost to TBGS. Top left: Isobel and Grace Y9 have competed in the British Dressage semifinals recently at Kings Sedgemoor. Isobel won a brilliant individual 1st and both girls achieved a team 2nd and have now qualified for the national finals. Congratulations girls! Top centre: Well done to Joe in Y13 for completing the recent half marathon in 2 hours 15 mins while wearing his cadet boots. He also got there early to help the cadets set up their tent and even stayed after to help with the cadet volunteers. Top right: Grease is the word... and so it begins! We had our first meeting of all the cast and crew for our upcoming show. Good luck to Miss Sullivan and all students involved. Centre left to Bottom right: Year 7 were off their normal timetable on Thursday, following a carousel of workshops in their tutor groups. The day provided students with an opportunity to learn about and explore a variety of aspects surrounding Self Esteem. It is intended to be an integral part of developing self awareness, confidence and a sense of well-being. The sessions offered a range of experiences and students explored ways to build awareness of ‘Low and High Self Esteem’ and learn strategies to understand ‘What is self esteem?’ and raise Self Esteem through drama. They also learned about ‘Body Confidence and Puberty’. Each year we offer our Y13s a guest speaker programme and this term is focused all on careers aspirations. Last week we kicked off with Pete Offord in from Exeter University’s Outreach Team to deliver a talk all about University and degree apprenticeships as well as some information about student finance.
