Churston Together Circle

The Churston Together Circle connects alumni, friends and our local business community who are willing to share their time, insight, and opportunities - helping our students see what’s possible and feel confident about their future.

Whether you can offer a little time or ongoing support, there are simple and flexible ways to get involved.

Here are ways you can get involved.

Offer work experience

Give a young person a first taste of the workplace through a short placement, shadowing opportunity or workplace visit. Even a few days can build confidence, develop skills and bring future pathways into focus.

Give a careers talk

Join us in school or online to share your career journey, industry insights or specialist knowledge. Hearing real stories helps students connect their studies with the world beyond the classroom and broaden their aspirations.

Mentor a student project

Support student-led projects and enterprise initiatives such as Enterprise Day, Dragons’ Den, the 10X Challenge, or The Hatchery. Your experience can inspire ideas, guide thinking and bring learning to life.

Make an introduction

Help us build connections by introducing Churston to organisations, professional bodies, funding opportunities or community groups. Often, a single conversation can open the door to meaningful opportunities for students.

Support through your business

There are also opportunities to support the school through sponsorship, partnerships or contributions to the Churston Together Fund. If you’d like to explore ways your organisation could be involved, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Case study: Y8 Enterprise Event

This year’s event featured the one-day Tyre Challenge. Working in small teams with external business mentors, they decided what product they would create from recycled tyres, before designing their pitches. Each team then presented their business plans, branding and marketing and financial plans to launch their products.

The event was successful and well-received by the students, the majority of which enjoyed the hands-on, creative and collaborative activities.

Overall it was fun, educational and beneficial, with positive impacts on confidence, creativity and understanding of business concepts. As well as helping develop teamwork, presentation and practical business skills it also inspired interest in Business Studies as a potential GCSE option.

Student Feedback:

“It was useful because it helped me develop my presentation skills and confidence at standing up in front of the class. I also developed communication and teamwork skills because I had to work with people I didn't usually work with for the whole day. My friend also showed me some skills with technology to let me make an animation.”

I enjoyed working with my friends on something that can be super helpful. I found having a business person in was quite helpful as they gave us proper business advice like what would have happened in a real job.”

“I found this to be an extremely useful event, as I am heavily considering taking Business Studies for GCSE. It taught me a lot of skills, such as helping me with my confidence and creativity, which I often struggle with. It also reinforced my financial knowledge, since I was the team's accountant. Overall, it was a very beneficial experience.”
