What a year it's been! As another fantastic year at Churston comes to a close, we'd like to say a massive THANK YOU... To our incredible students for your hard work, kindness, resilience, curiosity and enthusiasm. You are what makes The Churston Experience so special, and we couldn't be prouder of everything you've achieved this year. To our Year 11 and Year 13 students - Class of 2026 - congratulations on reaching the end of this chapter. Our 6 Silver The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition teams returned from Dartmoor after a very successful three day expedition in very warm conditions. We saw some superb teamwork, great expedition skills, and lots of the Silvers developing a really keen interest in the environment of the moor, taking the time to photograph, observe and sketch, natural and historical features. Y9 Tutees of the Term Tutors nominated two students in each tutor group whom they felt had gone above and beyond not just in the last half term, but in the whole of year 9. They were awarded for qualities such as: kindness, being helpful, inquisitivity, caring for others, volunteering or being form reps. The intermediate biology olympiad is a national competition that tests A-level knowledge of topics alongside problem solving skills and an understanding of core principles. The grade boundaries were very high this year, indicating an extremely strong calibre of entrants. What an incredible achievement from Matt and Lucas (Year 12)! Recently, they represented both Churston and their own sustainable clothing company, Roots (Rootsclothing.co.uk), as keynote speakers at a COP22-themed event at the University of Exeter. Invited by the Academy for Character and Excellence, they spoke to more than 100 primary school pupils, inspiring the young delegates to make positive environmental pledges within their own school communities. "It was a heartwarming and inspiring event where we were incredibly impressed by the ambition, dedication and bright ideas of the climate change makers of tomorrow. It was also a very nice opportunity to say that we gave a talk in a lecture theatre!" – Lucas, Year 12 To be invited as keynote speakers at such a prestigious event is a remarkable achievement. Together with Roots co-owner Fyn, Matt and Lucas are already making a real difference beyond the classroom, using their passion, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit to inspire the next generation of environmental changemakers.
