Facilities

Set between Brixham and Paignton on the edge of the South Devon coast, our campus has been purposefully developed to provide an inspiring, well-equipped environment for every student.

The environment young people learn in matters. Churston sits in a remarkable location - close enough to the sea to feel it, and within easy reach of Dartmoor for outdoor expeditions. Since the school first opened in 1957, our campus has continually evolved to meet the needs of modern education, ensuring our facilities match the ambition of our students.

Designed for every discipline

From dedicated study centres to specialist creative studios, our buildings provide the tools our students need to excel across the curriculum.

Fitness Suite

Fitness Suite

Professional gym flooring, mirrored walls and an upgraded audio-visual system. Open at lunchtime for students from Year 9 upwards, this space provides straightforward access to equipment that builds healthy habits alongside academic life.

School Grounds

School Grounds

Set against the backdrop of the South Devon countryside and uniquely accessed by crossing a heritage steam railway line. Our extensive pitches and natural habitats give students the physical space to compete, explore and breathe.

Sports Hall

Sports Hall

The heartbeat of indoor competitive sport at Churston. Matches, tournaments, training sessions and house competitions all happen here. It also keeps the school genuinely embedded in the local community by hosting external sports clubs year-round.

The Cage

The Cage

Football freestyle, Panna, hockey and informal sport. This is one of the most active outdoor areas on site. A high-energy, all-weather setting where casual play and skill development sit side by side.

The Cube

The Cube

Purpose-built spaces designed for modern learning. From the dedicated humanities and study centre in The Cube to specialist science laboratories and modern language blocks, the campus has naturally evolved to give students exactly the environment they need to excel.

The Sixth Form Centre

The Sixth Form Centre

A dedicated building completely separate from the lower school. Designed to feel less like a traditional classroom and more like a bridge to university or the workplace. It is a space where students are treated as adults and given the autonomy to manage their own time.

A campus that keeps moving forward

We never stand still. Our site has grown from its original 1957 footprint to include major additions like the 2001 Modern Foreign Languages block, the 2008 Cube, the 2011 Sixth Form Centre, and the 2016 Art and Music extension. We continually invest in our buildings so that our teachers and students have the very best spaces to work in.

"We have been really impressed with Churston so far. Our son has settled in extremely well and is clearly enjoying his time at the school. We greatly appreciate the time, variety, and effort that go into the extra-curricular activities, particularly the sporting opportunities. It has also been wonderful to see our son already thinking more deeply about potential career paths, which seems to be helping him stay focused and motivated in his work."

Year 7 Parent

“My vision is for students to feel supported and nurtured whilst simultaneously building the resilience and independence needed for the wider world.”

Mrs C Cowell
Head of Year 8

“Participating in music and drama events has helped me develop my confidence throughout my time at Churston, helping me to feel comfortable performing on a stage. These things also teach you how to be dedicated and work towards a common team goal.”

Tom
Student

“My one piece of advice for younger students would be to take every opportunity that presents itself to you, even if it’s something that pushes you out of your comfort zone - those experiences will help you grow into the best version of yourself.”

Anna
Student

“I adore doing acting and singing because I get to make other people happy by doing something I love.”

Gwen
Year 9 Student

“By exploring new activities, pushing our boundaries and stepping out of our comfort zone, we take a chance in life. These small courageous steps open up new worlds. We discover meaning, find strength and appreciate the beauty of kindness.”

Mrs G Longhurst
Assistant Headteacher – Student Development
