The Arts
At Churston, music, drama and visual art sit alongside every other subject as things worth pursuing seriously, with skill, and with pride. The arts are central to a Churston education - full stop.

We believe that creative confidence is part of what a good education builds. A student who can express an idea through a piece of music, perform in front of an audience, or communicate something true in paint or pencil, has a kind of capability that matters - in work, in relationships, and in life. The arts at Churston are taught with genuine ambition. We have specialist teachers, dedicated spaces, and a culture that values creative risk. Whether a student goes on to study art at degree level or simply carries a love of music into adult life, what they learn and experience here stays with them.

Creativity is not an add-on
From the first year to A Level, art at Churston is about developing a genuine creative practice. Our students discover what it means to openly express themselves all year-round.
Perform, explore, create
Music is taught to all students in the lower school, with GCSE and A Level options providing pathways for those who want to go further.
Beyond the curriculum, there are ensemble groups, performance opportunities and individual instrumental tuition available for students who want to develop their playing or singing. Concerts throughout the year give students the chance to perform - and to experience what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Take the stage
Drama at Churston runs from classroom to performance. All lower school students experience drama as part of a broad curriculum; GCSE and A Level Drama take students deeper into the craft of performance and production.
School productions are a highlight of the Churston calendar - ambitious, well-supported, and open to students across all year groups, both on stage and behind the scenes. Visiting theatre companies and trips to see professional productions bring the wider world of theatre into the school community.

See differently. Make boldly.
Art education at Churston develops students as visual thinkers. The curriculum explores drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and mixed media, with increasing independence and ambition as students progress through the school.
GCSE and A Level Art are courses for students with creative drive - they produce work of real quality, exhibited within the school and shared with the wider community. The dedicated Art and Music block provides modern, well-equipped spaces that inspire creative work.
