University and Futures

Our futures programme is about more than grades. It's about helping every student leave Churston with confidence, direction, and the very best chance of getting where they want to be.

We prepare students for the world, not just exams.

Exam results matter - and at Churston, our results are exceptional. But results alone don't secure a place at a great university, land an apprenticeship, or launch a career. What sets our students apart is the preparation that sits alongside the academic work: understanding their options early, building a profile that reflects who they really are, and approaching applications with clarity and confidence. Our Sixth Form team works with every student individually to map out their next steps, whatever form those steps take.

How futures take shape at Churston

UCAS guidance and support from first ideas to firm choice

Our UCAS programme begins well before applications open. Students receive guidance on personal statements, reference preparation, and interview technique, with dedicated support from staff who know the application process inside out.

Reaching for the very top with Russell Group & Oxbridge Preparation

For students aiming for highly competitive universities, we offer tailored preparation: mock interviews, extended reading guidance, and close mentoring from staff experienced in supporting successful applications to Oxford, Cambridge, and the Russell Group.

Degree apprenticeships, employment pathways and beyond

University is not the only outstanding next step, and we never treat it as if it is. We support students exploring degree apprenticeships, school leaver programmes, and direct employment routes with the same care and rigour we apply to UCAS.

Exploring careers and gaining the right experience for life

Through our careers programme, links with local businesses and professional networks in Torbay and beyond, and opportunities for work experience, students leave Churston with a genuine understanding of the world of work - not just an academic record.

Not everyone wants university. That's absolutely fine.

We support every Sixth Former to find the path that's right for them — not the path that looks best on paper. Whether a student is aiming for Oxford, a competitive degree apprenticeship, or a role straight after Sixth Form, they receive the same quality of advice, encouragement, and practical support. Aim high means something different for every student. We help you define what it means for you.

Quick answers to our most common questions.

UCAS preparation begins in Year 12, well before the application window opens. We help students research their options early, and formal personal statement support begins in the spring and summer term of Year 12, so students are well prepared ahead of the autumn deadline.

Yes. We have a strong track record of supporting Oxbridge applicants and work closely with students who are considering applications to Oxford or Cambridge. Support includes guidance on course selection, personal statement writing, Admissions Test preparation, and mock interviews. We also take advantage of access schemes and outreach programmes offered by the universities themselves.

Absolutely. Careers guidance is built into the Sixth Form experience at Churston, not bolted on as an afterthought. Students have access to individual careers appointments, employer events, and guidance from staff throughout their time in the Sixth Form.
