The school Funk Band were delighted to accept an invitation to perform at the Dart Music Festival. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to build on their experience in performing and to showcase their talents to the wider community. The students played a variety of pieces including well known numbers by Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, to a packed audience in the sunshine on the main stage in the Royal Avenue Gardens in Dartmouth. Our students, once again, made us very proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the day and of the high standard of their well polished performances. We received many extremely positive comments from members of the public who had watched and enjoyed our 45 minute performance. It is always a pleasure to take our students and represent the school at such events. Well done to everyone involved ! A bit of friendly rivalry as our Year 8 girls challenged the Year 7 Boys to a game of basketball in the gymnasium. The progress made by these players during the past year has been phenomenal and it is great to see so many students enjoying their basketball. We are immensely proud of our talented athletes who travelled to Stover this week to compete in the South Devon Athletics Trials. It was a day defined by grit, sportsmanship, and high-calibre competition, with our students delivering outstanding performances across a variety of events. The athletes aimed for a coveted spot on the South Devon team to compete at the prestigious Exeter Arena. We are thrilled to announce that four of our students have successfully qualified for the next round following their podium finishes. In the middle-distance events, Henry displayed exceptional tactical awareness and speed, powering to a first-place finish in the 800m. In the field, Sam dominated the Long Jump, securing a brilliant victory with a leap that saw him take the top spot on the podium. The school also saw double success in the 1500m; both Evie and Bea demonstrated incredible endurance and determination in highly competitive fields, with both athletes securing 3rd place finishes to ensure their progression to the regional stage. To have such a strong contingent representing our school at the Exeter Arena is a testament to the hard work and dedication these students have poured into their training. We are incredibly proud to share that George Y12 has earned a place with the prestigious National Youth Theatre following a highly competitive audition process. After taking part in an intensive workshop and audition day, he's now been invited to attend a 10-day summer course in London alongside talented young performers from across the UK, preparing him for future opportunities within the company. With an estimated 5,000–6,000 applicants each year and an acceptance rate of around 8–10%, this is a remarkable achievement - made even more special by gaining a place on his very first audition attempt. Inspired by school drama productions to step onto the stage, he shared: “Without drama at school, I wouldn’t know where I’d be now.” The National Youth Theatre has helped launch the careers of celebrated alumni including Daniel Day-Lewis, making this an exciting milestone in a very promising journey. A huge thank you also goes to our dedicated drama staff whose encouragement and support helped make this possible.
