Teaching and Innovation
We believe that protecting the values of scholarship and community means preparing our students for the future. At Churston, we blend academic rigour with a thoughtful, modern approach to learning.

An innovative approach to learning.
Education achieves the most when young people are equipped with the tools to direct their own development. Our teachers are subject experts who bring genuine passion into the classroom, but their goal is not just to deliver information. We focus on building confidence, self-esteem, and the resilience needed for students to push through barriers and take ownership of their own progress.
Fostering independence through technology
Starting secondary school means learning to take responsibility. We embrace technology where it genuinely serves our students, helping them transition into confident, self-reliant learners.

Equipped with Google Workspace and Chromebooks
As a school, we use the Google platform to streamline learning. Students learn to use Google Workspace tools to manage their emails, track classwork, and submit assignments. Following dedicated classroom device use in Years 7 and 8, every student from Year 9 onwards is issued a personal Chromebook to seamlessly integrate technology into their daily research and independent study.

Encouraging independent study and research
Independent learning lessons are built into the curriculum for our younger students. Using their devices, they access a rich collection of resources to explore intellectual movements, scientific concepts, and wider societal themes at their own pace - taking true ownership of their educational journey.

Tracking academic and personal growth
Education at Churston is about more than just grades. We utilise a suite of industry-leading platforms to ensure students are developing holistically:
- Arbor: Our secure portal for seamless home-school communication, attendance and performance tracking, clubs and daily updates.
- Unifrog: A dedicated platform where students track their academic achievements, log enrichment activities, and explore future career pathways.
- Vinspired: Because social justice matters, students use this platform to log their active citizenship and volunteering hours, earning recognised awards for their community impact.

Exploring careers and gaining the right experience for life
Through the Churston Together Circle, our careers programme, links with local businesses and professional networks in Torbay and beyond, and opportunities for work experience, students leave Churston with a genuine understanding of the world of work - not just an academic record.
