Sport at Churston

At Churston, sport isn't just what happens in PE lessons. It's woven into school life - a space where students discover resilience, teamwork, and what they're capable of when they push themselves.

We believe that sport has something to offer everyone - not just the naturally gifted or the fiercely competitive. Of course, we develop talented athletes and field strong teams in competition. But we also believe that the student who tries cross-country for the first time, or joins a new club in Year 10, is doing something just as valuable. Our PE programme is built on inclusion and challenge in equal measure. We want every Churston student to leave school with a love of physical activity, an understanding of what their body can do, and habits that will serve them well for life.

A wide range of sports for all interests

Our curriculum and enrichment programme covers a broad range of sports, giving students the chance to find their game - and excel at it.

What sport at Churston looks like

Every journey we take is designed to stretch boundaries, build independence, and create the kind of shared memories that last a lifetime.

Quality PE curriculum

A structured, progressive programme from Year 7 to Sixth Form, covering a wide range of sports and building physical literacy, tactical awareness, and a genuine understanding of health and fitness.

Competitive teams and fixtures

We field teams across multiple sports at local, regional and national level. Our students compete hard and represent Churston with pride - and they win.

Inclusive participation

Competitive sport sits alongside a programme designed for everyone. Inter-house sport, recreational clubs, and open sessions mean that regardless of ability, there's a way to get involved.

Facilities and outdoor space

Our setting - on the edge of South Devon's coastline and open countryside - gives us space that most schools can only envy. We make the most of it.

"We have been really impressed with Churston so far. Our son has settled in extremely well and is clearly enjoying his time at the school. We greatly appreciate the time, variety, and effort that go into the extra-curricular activities, particularly the sporting opportunities. It has also been wonderful to see our son already thinking more deeply about potential career paths, which seems to be helping him stay focused and motivated in his work."

Year 7 Parent

“By exploring new activities, pushing our boundaries and stepping out of our comfort zone, we take a chance in life. These small courageous steps open up new worlds. We discover meaning, find strength and appreciate the beauty of kindness.”
