VI Form Welcome
WELCOME from K. Shephard, Head of Sixth Form
Welcome to the Churston Ferrers Grammar School Sixth Form prospectus and thank you for your interest.
Sixth Form is an exciting and challenging stage in your education as you choose the subjects you wish to study and in making your choice you need to think whether they are appropriate if you have a particular career in mind. You also have another choice to make between the different local schools and colleges which offer Level 3 qualifications. Churston’s Sixth Form is unique in the local area as:
- we are truly co-educational with more or less equal numbers of female and male students, there are usually over 270 students in total
- the Sixth Form is academic in nature as we specialise in A levels together with the AQA Baccalaureate
- Ofsted rated the School and the Sixth Form as OUTSTANDING in every area
- we believe in providing you with the resources to achieve and thus core textbooks are supplied by the School
Each year most of our Year 11 students transfer to the Sixth Form and between 30- 40 students from other schools join us. I hope you will choose Churston Sixth Form and that you remember your time in the Sixth Form as a very enjoyable experience during which you achieved success.
We provide a broad, balanced curriculum supplemented by a wide range of extracurricular opportunities. Our aim is to equip students with all the information and skills to make a success of their lives beyond school. Sixth Form students are very much involved with the rest of the School and provide role models for younger students. Prefects are attached to Form groups in Years 7 and 8. Sixth formers are also Lead Learners for the Comenius Project and are members of a School House.
If you are not familiar with the School it stands in its own extensive and attractive grounds at the southern end of Torbay serving the coastal towns of Brixham, Paignton, Kingswear and Dartmouth, although some of our students travel from Torquay, Newton Abbot and Totnes.
I wish you good luck with your GCSE examinations and I look forward to working with you should you decide to come to Churston. Please note that the Application Form should be submitted to us by 6 February.
