Introduction to Sixth Form

Welcome to Churston Ferrers Grammar School Sixth Form.

Starting Sixth Form is an exciting and challenging stage in your education as you are able to choose the subjects you wish to study and you will begin to consider the possible career path you will follow. As you potentially prepare for university or the world of work your choice of subjects is therefore important and we are happy to advise you in making this important decision.

Our aim is to help you to achieve the best possible grades and we will do our best to help you in this by supporting you in the transition between GCSE and A Levels. We also place great importance on preparing you for the future, advising you on appropriate work experience, providing expert career guidance and making sure you are informed about your post 18 options. We have a thriving ‘Alumni Network’ which provides inspiration to current students and encourages aspiration.

We have a reputation for strong pastoral support as we know how demanding A Levels can be and we want you to have a supportive and relaxing environment to study in. Our dedicated Sixth Form team are experienced in offering you advice and guidance through these two years.

We believe that in the Sixth Form you should be treated as young adults and given greater responsibility. You have your own separate Sixth Form building (completed in 2012), you can wear your own clothes and have the opportunity to manage your time due to the free lessons you will have.

However, as a Grammar School, we expect our students to work hard and we do all we can to help and support you in this. This includes encouraging aspirational students in their pursuit of places at Russell Group Universities and other high-ranking institutions in the US and Europe. We are proud that our Sixth Form has a natural atmosphere of commitment to study, a sense of community and considerate behaviour.

Finally, Churston’s Sixth Form is unique in the area because:

  • We are truly co-educational with an average of 300 students in total.
  • The Sixth Form is academic in nature as we specialise in A Levels, together with the Extended Project.
  • Ofsted rated the school and Sixth Form as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.
  • We are committed to providing students with the resources they need to achieve and therefore all students are provided with a Chromebook for the duration of their studies and all core textbooks.

Each year, the majority of our year 11 students transfer to our Sixth Form along with between 50-60 students from a variety of other schools. We hope that you will choose our Sixth Form too and one day remember your time in the Sixth Form as a very enjoyable experience and one in which you achieved the success you were hoping for.
