Churston Ferrers Grammar School

'Get your reggae reggae sauce..........'

Dragon Slayer

Last week was officially National Enterprise Week and students of Churston Ferrers Grammar School have taken the opportunity to highlight the many enterprising activities that enrich the student’s academic work.

The highlight of the week was the visit of Levi Roots of Reggae Reggae Sauce and Dragon’s Den fame. He gave an impromptu rendition of his Reggae Reggae Sauce song in the Sixth Form Common Room. Levi was brought to the school by Angela George on behalf of the Torbay Innovation Centre at South Devon College. The 6th Form Business Studies students were then fortunate enough to go to South Devon College on the Friday to listen to Levi talk.

If anyone is interested in Levi speaking or singing at any events, please contact Angela on 01803 858833.

On the Wednesday six Year 11 students took part in the Schools Enterprise Challenge, again organised by the Torbay Innovation Centre.

The students created a promotional campaign for the Rivershack Café in Stoke Gabriel. The owner of the Rivershack, Tim Dyer not only invited the students for a tour an talk on the business he also joined them on the day of the competition. The highlight of the event was the creation of a radio advert for the campaign.

Along with the events for Enterprise Week the school also continues to run two Young Enterprise Companies. This year they are selling clothes based on the carbon footprint concept and a ‘Winter Warmer Gift Pack’.

The Year 10 Business Students are in a competition based on a simulation investing money on the Stock Market, whilst the Sixth Form run an Investment Club where £1,500 of real money is invested. They received national press coverage for this last year in the Telegraph.
