In year 12 students follow the OCR syllabus which includes the
topics of media and advertising, daily life and school, food and
drink, sport, travel and tourism.
The AS examination consists of three papers which test speaking,
listening, reading and writing skills but with particular emphasis
on grammatical accuracy. Much of the course will be conducted
in the foreign language and supplemented by regular weekly sessions
with a Foreign Language Assistant (who takes students in individual
or very small group sessions once a week).
The
main course book is the OCR recommended Tout Droit, but much use
is made of additional materials such as French for Business and
Zenith. Students are encouraged towards independent learning by
access to satellite broadcasts, media articles from the French
press and extensive background reading to provide material for
their oral presentation.
There
are also opportunities for students to visit France, either by
joining the French exchange for a work experience week, or by
attending the Brittany Forum.
