Congratulations to Year 9 students Eliza Powell and Beth Squire whose entries in a recent national competition held by The Guardian newspaper and publisher’s Faber & Faber have been highly commended by judges. The competition was opened to young people aged 13-16, to design a new book cover for ‘Lord of the Flies’, which is a set text at English GCSE.

The brief was to create a contemporary cover in any media, to appeal to young people. The students completed this within their Year 9 Art Pathway class. Miss Jago, their Art teacher, said ‘It’s fantastic to provide opportunities for students which give their imagination free reign to create art fuelled entirely by their own ideas, within the wider curriculum. They are a great class and I’m very proud of them!’

Beth and Eliza’s work will be exhibited at the Guardian Gallery, London with a private view on 18th February 2012
