The
English Department at Churston Ferrers Grammar
School adopted a new modular GCSE course in
September 2005 and the first cohort received
their results this summer.
The specification proved to be a great success
with 58% of students gaining A*/A Grades. In
addition, six students were amongst the top
ten in the country who achieved the highest
overall marks.
|
They
were: Alice Chappell, James Menage, Fiona Barry,
Harriet Maxwell, Katherine Richards and Matilda
Smith. Harriet Maxwell was also amongst the
top ten history students in the country.
Peter
Coals, Head of English, was delighted and praised
the hard work and commitment of the students
and the staff who taught them. It is a significant
achievement to have so many students from one
school placed in the top ten in the country.
|
The
Edexcel course offers choice and flexibility
with pupils studying digital communication as
well as the more traditional topics such as
poetry, pre 1914 prose and Shakespeare.
Two
of these students Alice Chappell and Matilda
Smith have decided to continue with their English
studies and have just embarked on an AS English
Literature course.
